Manga Review – Left Hand of God Right Hand of the DevilAuthor: Jon Martin | Sunday, June 6th, 2010 |
If you feel like me and you actually feel like being scared for a change, you should check out ‘Left Hand of the God Right Hand of The Devil. Besides the intense gore, there is a very creepy atmosphere and fast pace. This would be a great manga for beginners to read but that’s because it’s so well-done. ‘Left Hand of God Right Hand of The Devil‘ centers around a little boy named Sou, he has very strange and disturbing visions. Remember, this is NSFW, this is some weird fucked up stuff you’re about to look at. This first Arc of the manga is called “The Rusty Scissors”. You can imagine my surprise when this is the first thing I see. I don’t mind some cartoon gore but even I was a little taken aback. It’s not everyday you see a pair of rusty scissors exploding through a girl’s head and each blade of the scissors going out one eye.
There’s something I love about this type of shock-horror, what’s actually happening is gross but there is something about the new idea that is intriguing, I also like how genuinely scary it is. Perhaps it’s because manga is small pictures and you sort of have to imagine what’s in between.
This girl is named Izumi, the character on the right is Sou, Izumi’s little brother.
What I enjoy about manga is how the writers/animators put their characters in such god-awful situations . We never had to see a scene like this, they could have introduced Sou and his sister in a different way but I think it takes a real vision to pull off something so terrifying.
Sou finally wakes up, you’d think he’d do it a little sooner if his sister was screaming and crying so loud.
It was just a dream! How annoying! Well that’s not completely true. The manga continues on after this, with Izumi and some of her friends sneaking out with Sou. While they are trying to get through some bad weather, they find a basement that seems to have appeared because of the storm.
Izumui’s friends pressure her and Sou to go inside… but just as they are making their way down, Izumi steps on something.
The Rusty Scissors! I’m pretty far into the manga, so my next post about this series will probably be the final review. Look for it!
