Robert Plena Interview by Vanessa Prat
Growing up in New York City I was surrounded by many different types of art forms. Hip Hop being recited on corners, a guitar being strummed late night for a missing love. Film buffs sharing with me their favorite parts of the city because that was where “this” scene from “that” movie took place. Everybody has a creative beat inside them, some more than others. Robert Plena is the latter. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Soundview section of The Bronx he saw the down-and-out and many who had fallen to different demons. After seeing him perform live I was moved by his strong presence and his loud voice. He commands attention. So, how did he become a Spoken Word Poet? Lets find out. What follows is a short email interview, with some funny and blatantly honest answers.
