Larry King Hits Back at Julian Assange for walking out on CNN interviewer (Video)Author: Jon Martin | Tuesday, October 26th, 2010 |
Wikileaks frontman Julian Assange and Daniel Ellsberg, the man who released the Pentagon Papers sat down with Larry King earlier tonight to discuss the recently released 400,000 wikileaks documents. Thankfully, most of the interview was about the actual documents but King also took some time, at the end of the interview, to press Assange on why he walked out of a CNN interview last week. Assange says that false charges like this are used to distract people from what is important. Assange points out that over 100,000 people have died and somehow Assange’s personal life is more important than the truth about those deaths.
King asks why Assange couldn’t have just said the charges were false instead of saying they were trivial. “Rape is not trivial” King said. It was hard to tell if Assange agreed or not. I still think it’s a bit telling that the CNN’s interview focused on Assange instead of the death and torture of civilians, shouldn’t a news organization be more interested in the release of the documents? You have Julian Assange there and you ask him about bogus charges that will have no bearing on the future of the American or Iraqi people at all.
Many people, myself included, have watched CNN’s long slide into tabloid nonsense, so it’s nice to see them called out. Assange is becoming popular and Wikileaks is becoming a very interesting entity. It is a website that is able to have leverage over the governments of countries and there’s nothing those countries can do to stop it.
