Ann Coulter: Most Civilians Hate the Military (Video)

Ann Coulter sat down on Fox New’s Red Eye today to discuss the repeal of DADT (Don’t Ask Don’t Tell). Earlier today, Obama signed the repeal into law, finally ending the stupid practice of discharging troops based on their sexuality. Ann isn’t happy about the repeal and although she pretends to support gay republicans and has actually been punished by the right for it, that doesn’t mean she’ll stand up for the rights of gay troops. Instead of forming a coherent argument,  Ann lets her personal feelings and snap judgements overshadow her logic.

Coulter goes on to say that people in the military don’t want to work with gays, so they shouldn’t have to. It’s all very reminiscent of when segregation in the army ended. I wonder if Coulter realizes she will be one of those people we point back to in the future, to warn others of how difficult the past was for gays.

Coulter’s point seems to be that citizens shouldn’t be making decisions for the military, since citizens don’t know what’s going on in the military.  Coulter is promoting the viewpoint that if you don’t want gays in the military, you “understand” the military.

One wonders, how does Ann Coulter understand the military being a civilian herself? What about the people in the military that support DADT? She doesn’t care, obviously. She doesn’t care about the troops or any of these people, she’s just playing political chess. I’m sure she knows that DADT should be passed and there’s no reason gays can’t fight alongside heterosexual troops. Coulter is  good at shocking people with her comments but she’d be even better if she had bulletproof logic behind her arguments. This half-assed “they don’t want it” stuff isn’t cutting it. Seems like a bad choice to support bigotry the repeal has already passed but I guess Coulter has no shame.
