Michael Moore and Rachel Maddow Discuss Wikileaks (Video)Author: Jon Martin | Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 |
On tonight’s Rachel Maddow Show, Maddow sat down with Michael Moore in front of a live audience to discuss why he paid for part of Julian Assange’s bail. Maddow pointed out that right after it was announced that Moore supported Assange, a Wikileaks release was posted that said Moore’s documentary film “Sicko” was banned in Cuba. This turned out to be not true and Maddow explained that this is one of the reasons the wikileaks issue is so complicated. Many people believed the leak because it was supposed to be a “secret government document”, so fake leaks could lead to a lot of damage and disinformation.
Moore says that our government has a lot at stake. The government is calling Assange a hi-tech terrorist and some on the right are even calling for his assassination. Meanwhile, focus seems to have shifted from the information in the documents to what happened between Julian Assange and those two women. Moore says he doesn’t know what happened but he pointed out that he started the rape crisis center in Flint, Michigan. Moore believes that he’s being smeared in an attempt to silence Assange’s message and drown out any support, of course Moore would never support rape.
Moore said it should be troubling that the government it hitting back at wikileaks and that Bradley Manning is being held in solitary confinement and without charges. Moore says that Manning should be awarded because it’s a soldier’s duty to report what is happening if what is happening is immoral. The audience clapped and to be honest, it’s a little hard to deny Moore’s logic. The truth is being hidden from Americans everyday, what are they so afraid of? What are your tax dollars being used on?
Do you support Obama’s views or wikileaks? Do you think Assange is a terrorist for pointing out some of the illegal things being done by our government? Who has the ability to create more change? Obama or Assange? Is this really just about the American government or is it about all governments and their attempts to hide information from their citizens? If the government takes money from your check every week, do you have a right to say what that money is used for? These are questions you should think about. The government wants free reign to call whatever info that it considers damaging to be “confidential”.
Right now, the government can, for the most part, control what’s on the news. If any of these documents were discovered by say, ABC News, Fox News, CNN, I don’t think we would ever hear about them… that’s why Wikileaks is important. It’s essentially doing what the news should be doing, pointing out what our government is doing without bias. Our current news media refuses to report the truth and refuses to investigate the truth, so Wikileaks has stepped in to provide that service. Below is Fox News Correspondent, Bob Beckel calling for the assassination of Julian Assange.
Fox News, fair and balanced… well… unless they think you should die XD.
