There is a silver lining in this story though, if reports from hollywoodreporter are to be believed . It turns out even involuntary eternal sleep can’t bring down the Anderson Cooper behemoth because even amid this terrible tragedy, Cooper’s ratings have improved. Anderson had a 1.4 national rating for week two of his television show (after Nielsen recalculated the rating for the first week), which made it the second biggest opening for a new talk show since Rachel Ray in 2006. Only Dr. Oz had a higher debut when he launched in 2009.

Perhaps a dose of brutal reality is what increased the ratings, because until now Anderson was looking like a pretty big stinker. Whether he’s discussing Gerard Depardu pissing on a plane, giggling like a british school-girl, or getting spray-tanned with Snooki, it seems like he cares less and less about the “serious journalism” moniker. Maybe there isn’t such a thing anymore, pershaps the allure of hollywood and mainstream popularity is just too much to chance giving up. Shouldn’t Anderson Cooper be down at the Occupy Wall St being punched in the face? What? Anderson is too good to get punched in the face here in America? He only goes to foreign protests? Hipster.

Tonight is not a great night for Donald Trump. Earlier tonight at the press correspondents dinner, Obama spoke and since Trump was in attendance, Obama took the opportunity to hammer him on The birth certificate nonsense. It was not pretty and by the end of Obama’s speech the entire crowd was laughing at Trump. It was a bit of a rude awakening from the man who takes himself so seriously, one wonders if he will still consider running for president.

Later on, Seth Meyers took to the stage and continued the ‘Trump-bashing’ theme of the night. Meyers was brutal and it was hard not to feel bad for the stone-faced Trump…. Then again, he did deserve it…

Since I’m extending Little Big Apocalypse, I have to do storyboards.. but I decided to take the opportunity to do them as manga, so then I have both a manga and an animation. I’m not sure if I’m going to release it before or after the animation (little big apocalypse: episode 2) because I don’t know if I want to ruin what happens before the animation comes out. Here’s a capture from the first few pages (there are 42).

Doctors say that her recovery is “not usual” and she is making progress everyday. Earlier today, it was reported that she is using an
IPad and trying to speak. This is somewhat bizarre for someone who was shot in the head a little over a week and a half ago.  With this speedy recovery, will it actually be possible for Gifford’s to look into the face of Jared Loughner at his trial?

Of course, she won’t be her old self, that’s for sure, she probably won’t look the same either.. but just imagine the feeling Loughner will get as the ONLY person he wanted to kill that day, shows up in court to help send him to death. I’m not sure if Giffords will have recovered enough to do this, but throwing Loughner a smile from across the room, right before he’s sentenced, would be a very sweet revenge. Testifying against an attacker after they have disfigured their victim is not uncommon, humans can survive a suprising amount of abuse.

Esperanza Medina

Earlier this year, a botched acid attack on a woman named Esperanza Medina left her face disfigured. The attack was planned by two women, unfortunately for them, Medina wasn’t too disfigured to testify.

The women that attacked Medina did so because she was dating a man that both had been involved with. The sulfuric acid concoction left Medina with burns over 25% of her body.

Instead of backing down or covering her face, Medina showed up in court, disfigurements in plain view, to testify against her attackers. Medina says that she rarely goes outside and only shows her face to her doctors, who are attempting multiple skin-grafts.

“I didn’t care any more what people looked at me,” said Medina. “I know I’m beautiful, and I really don’t care any more.”

Medina is someone that didn’t back away from her attackers and made her disfigurment a big part of her trial. If she had hidden her face and jurors could not have seen the damage, the punishment might not have been as severe. Medina’s attackers were found guilty of heinous battery, which carries the maximum sentence of 45 years.

In Vermont, a man threw lye on his wife’s face. Lye is a caustic chemical used in some cleaning products. It is poisonous and very corrosive and very dangerous. The lye burned around 80% of the woman’s body and only 40% has been recovered with surgery. Carmen, the woman burned in the attack took her husband to court after he claimed he was “not guilty”.

Carmen said words cannot express the feeling of being called unrecognizable and to hear warning on television when here image is shown.

Fifty-three-year-old Herbert Rodgers, who pleaded not guilty in the June 2007 attack, entered a guilty plea and was sentenced at the proceeding in Vermont District Court in Chelsea. He was charged with maiming, first-degree aggravated domestic assault, burglary and domestic assault.

Conclusion:

If Gabrielle Giffords can go to court and successfully testify against Loughner, it would make for a really incredible story. Even if she can’t though, the path she has been set on his amazing and has the chance to change American politics in a positive way. The Gabrielle Giffords saga has turned the right-wing media on it’s head, as it now has to deal with it’s dangerous rhetoric. That is one change that has already happened, time will tell how far Giffords influence will stretch as she continues to recover.

On a Larry King interview earlier in the year, Maher used the n-word while making a point. Dr. Laura said that she was doing the same sort of thing but because Maher is a liberal, no one said anything.

Months ago, on her radio show, Dr Laura used “nigger” seven times during a discussion about the word. The woman on the other end of the phone was in an interracial relationship and was uncomfortable because her husband and friends would use the n-word in front of her and she was growing resentful. Dr. Laura responded by saying “black people use n*gger all the time, if you turn on a black comedian, all you hear is n*gger, n*gger, n*gger.” These comments caused nation-wide controversy and ended with Dr. Laura cancelling her show.  Watch here as Anderson sounds off on Dr. Laura:

This seems to be another problem caused by the war on drugs. Since marijuana is illegal, people created a legal alternative.  Little is known about the drug because they write “not for human consumption” on the package. This way, they don’t have to list all of the ingredients.  The general consensus in the media is that the drug can be fatal if taken at high doses….

Stern doesn’t do many interviews, so it’s very fitting that this is Morgan’s first interview. That’s not to say that it went off without a hitch though. As the two began to discuss Morgan’s new show, Stern complimented him, saying he loves him on America’s got talent, but he had no idea why Morgan was doing this show.

Last year, during the controversy surrounding the tonight show, Stern took the opportunity to trash Jay Leno. This soon became a meme as everyone started trashing Leno because he went back on his word and stole Conan O’Brien’s chance at being host. Stern still doesn’t like Leno and he doesn’t have a problem telling anyone that will listen.

“I don’t know why he’s beating David Lettermen in the ratings, it’s beyond my comprehension, America must be filled with morons, they lay in bed- the ones who are watching him, they must be in a coma.”

Last year, the other big Stern controversy was the rumor that he was being picked to host American Idol. During this period, Stern denied he had been approached and too the opportunity to trash most of the current cast members on the show except Simon Cowell. Stern said the retooled Idol would fail and fail hard without Cowell. Being a radio personality, Stern is no stranger to music, he started as a DJ, now.. he says he’s likes Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga…

Stern also took some time to discuss the relationship between him and his father. If you’ve listened to his who, you know that his father was very strict and would often belittle him, even though he was just being a kid. It seemed to effect him a great deal and Stern took some time to open up about it on the show. Stern said he often struggled for his father’s respect.

I have to admit this was one of the most entertaining Golden Globes in a long time, it was more of a roast of the stars attending. Gervais’ set up of his Tim Allen joke was the funniest moment of the night. Gervais, however, saved his most daring comments for the end though, as the show was just leaving the air, Gervais thanked everyone for being there, then thanked god he was an atheist.
